Silent Communication
As a handloom weaver I have always been concerned with time, but
wanting my work to bring together material, tradition and technique
I continue producing ikat handwoven textile pieces because I love the
characteristics of unpredicted yarn pattern and colour.
For the Umbrella Exhibition I am combining my interest in ikat weaving
with "silent communication" and intend producing pieces of ikat
weaving that epitomise the invisible waves of global connectivity.
In the digital world computers have revolutionised our lives which
means we now have instant electronic access to communicate and access
information from around the world. Time and space shrinks by a click of
the mouse.
With my ikat weaving I am trying to visualise the idea of "silent
communication" capturing the essence of unseen yet powerful messages.
